Under the internship program, the intern engages in the daily activities of project. In most of the cases, interns develop a report paper in a particular area of interest by working closely with the project staffs. Generally, the director of the project serves as a supervisor for the intern.

Accommodations

Interns will be staying with a host family near to the project. A separate room will be given throughout the internship period, wherever possible. The host family offers Nepali food (three meals a day) which includes rice, lentil soup, vegetable curry, meats (occasionally) and pickles.

Most of the time, the director of the project or other assigned professionals work to help you to complete your report. Please contact Himalayan Volunteers if you need any help to locate the information and materials for your internship program.

Notice

Himalayan Volunteers recommends two weeks of language and culture programs for interns. It will give them a good start in exploring the issues of Nepal. Many times, language difficulties hinder the effectiveness of interning. Furthermore, it is possible to manage extra tutorials with experts of particular areas with an additional fees. Himalayan Volunteers suggests the intern correspond with us if they have special needs for internship.

The majority of Nepal?s people experience severe health problems due to a lack of health care education, medical services, and resources in Nepal. Moreover, the doctor-patient ratio is very poor, with one doctor caring for approximately 16,000 patients?even in cities. The lack of availability of qualified health care workers has resulted in many health problems in Nepal.

Volunteers for health care projects assist local doctors and medical staff with the treatment of patients. Volunteers are also involved in other hospital activities such as record keeping, sanitation, nutrition, and patient education. Any volunteer interested in joining our health care program must have proof of certification as a medical student, nurse, doctor, or other medical-related experience. (Note: Volunteers without professional medical credentials are not allowed to work in this program because of risks involved.) Volunteers will primarily assist local doctors and medical staff in their treatment of patients. Volunteers may participate in other hospital programs such as record keeping, sanitation, and nutrition.
